Meditation Retreats
True North Insight is dedicated to offering affordable rates to all. Our retreat fees are on a sliding scale basis that allows participants to pay according to individual means. Fees do not include compensation for the teachers that rely on the generosity of retreatants for a sustainable income. There is an opportunity to offer dana (donations) to the teachers at the end of each retreat.
True North Insight scholarships are part of our commitment to make the Buddha's teachings accessible to all, regardless of means.
It is important to us to be a welcoming, safe and inclusive community, accepting and supportive of diversity in age, race, physical and mental abilities, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity.*
True North Insight hold five spots for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) retreatants up until one month before the retreat starts.
* Our sangha is inclusive of trans and gender diverse (e.g. gender fluid, gender queer, agender) people. We recognize that gender is not dependent on how someone looks and can be something other than male or female. One's gender is often inferred by the pronoun used as reference (he/she/they). We encourage mindfulness around pronouns.

Retreat Center Updates
Loyola House:
As some of you may know, Loyola House (our retreat center in Guelph) is no longer available to receive external groups like ours. We received this information later in our planning process for the 2026 program, which required us to find alternative locations for the retreats we had originally scheduled in Guelph. As a result, we will have fewer offerings in the Ontario area for 2026.
For this year, we have worked with the available options to ensure we can still provide meaningful retreat experiences. Please be assured that our intention is to restore the balance between Quebec and Ontario locations in future years as we continue to explore new partnerships and venues.
Galilee Centre:
This spring, we resumed a dialogue with Galilee Centre, where we have held retreats since 2007. In 2021, we made a decision to stop holding retreats there because Galilee Centre was owned by the Oblate order, which operated most of the Catholic-run residential schools in Canada, and members of our community felt that the Galilee leadership was not seriously taking responsibility to try to enter into reconciliation and reparation with Indigenous peoples.
Since that time, Galilee Centre has transitioned into an independent retreat centre, with no oversight from the Oblates. We met with representatives of the Galilee Centre this summer. A discussion ensued about the importance of recognizing the harms that were done while also being part of the solution moving forward. Actions taken by the Centre to create a culture of encounter with local indigenous group include meeting with elders of Turtle Island Lodge in Golden Lake to learn about the importance of the Ottawa river to Algonquin peoples, partnering with Kateri Native Ministries of Ottawa to offer programming, hospitality and accommodations, and partnering with the Indigenous Education team of the Ottawa Catholic School Board to provide retreats for Indigenous Youth to participate in land based learning and ceremony with elders and community partners, soon to be expanded to other school boards.
Upon further consultation with TNI’s Board and Guiding Teachers, we have decided to resume retreats at Galilee House. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
